Summer/Fall
2007

Greetings Friends,
Happy summer! I hope you are all enjoying the
glorious warm weather and taking advantage of
the longer days to paint, walk outdoors, relax
and have time for rest, renewal and joyful fun
activities.
Since the last newsletter I have
been involved in many exciting things.
In
May I was in Providenciales, one of the Turks
and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean. It is a beautiful
coral island, with white beaches, turquoise water
and amazing coral reefs.
I have been showing my paintings at a gallery
on the island “Art Provo”. This trip
was an opportunity to visit the gallery, and acquire
inspiration, snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing.
This
summer I have been working on six new large multimedia
“Coral Reef” paintings, which I am
excited to share with you.
Once again in July I taught my workshop “Watercolour-
exploring alternative techniques”,
at the Haliburton School of the Arts and had a
great time with a wonderful group of enthusiastic
students.
This School is a fantastic facility, offering
all kinds of interesting creative courses in all
the arts. It is a hive of creative energy for
six weeks during the summer. Everyone who attends
finds the courses and environment fun filled.
and stimulating. www.HaliburtonSchoolofTheArts.ca
I participated in one of the programs,
“Meditation and Creativity”
taught by Molly Swan, who is an exceptional teacher.
In this course we learnt about Insight
Meditation and were exposed to many different
drawing media, and painting in water colour.
For me this course reinforced the relationship
between meditation and creativity. It emphasized
the importance of taking time to look and see
what really is, not what we believe we see.
So often we live and believe in illusions. This
course was a wonderful opportunity to be still
to quiet the mind and connect with one’s
true creative self.
Here are some interesting quotes on seeing.
“Art does not reproduce what we see.
Rather, it makes us see.” Paul Klee
.
“‘Still in a way, nobody sees
a flower really. It is so small. We haven’t
time and to see takes time -like to have a friend
takes time.” Georgia O’keefe.
“The real voyage of discovery consists
not of seeing new landscapes, but in having new
eyes.” Marcel Proust.
If you would like to read more about meditation
and creativity, I recommend the "The
Zen of Seeing", by Frederick
Franck.
